Darius Miles, Alabama Basketball Player, Charged with Capital Murder
Darius Miles, a junior reserve forward for the Alabama men’s basketball team, and another man, Michael Lynn Davis, have been charged with capital murder in connection with a Sunday morning shooting near campus that killed 23-year-old Jamea Harris.
The shooting occurred early Sunday morning in the Strip off University Boulevard near campus and both men were charged with capital murder. The charge arose because the death involved shots fired into a vehicle.
Miles was booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail on Sunday and is no longer on the team. Miles’ attorneys said in a statement that he and his family are “heartbroken tonight over the death of Jamea Jonae Harris” and that he maintains his innocence.
Alabama head coach Nate Oats said he is limited in what he can say about Miles as the investigation is pending. He offered condolences to Harris’ family and said the shooting resonated with him because he has daughters.
