Ready to Visit Hong Kong in 2023? Here’s What You Need to Know
Hong Kong is a highly sought-after destination in Asia that offers a plethora of tourist attractions, recreational activities, and a bustling city atmosphere that draws people in.
Luckily for many passport holders, traveling to Hong Kong is convenient and hassle-free as it only requires a short one-and-a-half-hour flight and visa-free entry.
After being closed off to tourists for almost three years due to the pandemic, Hong Kong has reopened its doors to visitors in May 2022, with strict regulations in place. However, as the COVID-19 situation improves, these restrictions have been gradually lifted.
If you’re planning to visit Hong Kong in 2023, here are five crucial things you need to be aware of and prepare for prior to your trip.
1. The need for Rapid Antigen Test 24 hours before the scheduled flight
Although Hong Kong has relieved the RT-PCR test and quarantine demands, passengers still need to take a self-administered Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) within 24 hours before their scheduled flight departure time. It is advised that you keep a record of your negative RAT test outcome with you throughout your stay in Hong Kong for checking purposes. You may also voluntarily provide your test result by using the Department of Health’s health declaration form link.
2. Compulsory face mask wearing
It is mandatory to wear a face mask in Hong Kong, particularly in public places and on public transport vehicles. However, you are allowed to remove it when in a country park or participating in physically demanding activities.
3. The use of credit cards and other forms of electronic payments is widespread in Hong Kong
If you are someone who travels without cash, there is no need to worry as the majority of Hong Kong’s establishments accept international credit cards and various other forms of electronic payments. It is advisable to carry a small amount of cash with you for emergencies. ATMs and currency exchange offices are also readily available at the Hong Kong International Airport.
4. Always have an electrical adaptor with you
Hong Kong uses a UK-style plug that has three prongs. To ensure convenience during your stay in the city, it is recommended that you always carry an electrical adaptor with you.
5. Make sure to check Hong Kong’s weather conditions during your planned trip
Since Hong Kong is sub-tropical, the weather is generally pleasant. However, depending on the month of your visit, the weather may become very humid in summer or cool in winter. Therefore, pack your clothes accordingly.
